Buccal surgery is done under local anesthetist and it is done within one hour. 1 to 2 cm long incision is made between your cheek and gums above the upper second molar towards the back of the mouth. Then gently thumb pressure is applied from outside under the cheekbone due to which the buccal fat comes out through the incision. Forceps and surgical tweezers are used gently for extracting the fat. Remaining buccal fat is replaced to its original site. Dissolvable sutures are used for closing the incision. You will see the final result of the buccal fat removal in 3 months till all swelling subsides. You will need to rest for a day. You will have some swelling for a week which will go away with time.
