What are the steps of breast augmentation surgery?
Incision- There is three types of incision: First is inflammatory incisions which are placed under the crease of the breast, second is transaxillary incision which is placed in armpit and the third is periareolar incision which is placed around nipple area. There are various factors which decide the choice of incision such as anatomy of patient, type of implant and preference of the patient.
Placement of implant- Implants are placed under a pocket. Some implants are placed under the pectrol muscle and some implants are placed behind the breast tissue.
Closings of incisions-Sutures are placed over the breast tissue to close the incision and a surgical tape is placed to keep the incisions close. Incision lines will be visible in the beginning but they will gradually disappear after some time.
How much time is required for the recovery?
There will be some swelling over the area which is operated but this swelling will also disappear within one or two weeks. The patients are given painkillers to get relive from pain after the effect of anaesthesia subsides. 6 weeks is required for healing of the sutures. If the sutures are not resolving after 6 weeks, consult your doctor.
What are the precautions taken after breast augmentation?
You are advised not to do any physical activities for 6 weeks. You are also advised to do some pre-operative exercises such as flexing of the arms. You should consult your doctor immediately if you are noticing fever, chest pain, abnormal heart sounds
Is breastfeeding possible with implants?
Yes, breastfeeding is absolutely possible with implants because the surgery has not involved the ducts and the areas of the breasts which are involved in production of milk.
